We have been extremely busy around these parts for most of the summer. Once again, a BIG thank you to everyone who has come out fishing with us this year. Feedback has been amazing for the most part about our guide staff and the overall experience. Now to the fishing..
Madison: The river has been seeing quite a bit of pressure. In reality, this is nothing new and she continues to produce some quality trout. Try focusing your efforts with streamers and smaller nymph trailers. Also, we have noticed the hopper bite picking up as well as ants. One main thing to remember about the Madison this time of year is to capitalize on your opportunities. Meaning, set the hook efficiently, as the trout are definitely wiser this time of year.
Big Hole: Flows are slightly below the historical median, and the lower river below Fish and Game Maiden Rock is on the Hoot Owl Closure. That being said, the canyon up stream has been fishing consistently with sculpins subsurface, and moths up to. Ants and hoppers will get some fish on dries if the sun isn’t too high and hot.
Beaverhead: The stretch below the dam is off color and getting somewhat mossy. You can still catch fish subsurface, just be patient. The river around Dillon and below is fishing well by foot and also floating it with hoppers or streamers.
Jefferson: Flows are very low down here due to irrigation draw. If you are planning on fishing it, plan your float accordingly as it can be a (boat) drag fest if you choose wrong. In addition to low water, make sure you know the river, because she is getting picky. But we have been guiding here daily and the fishery is producing some hogs and a good number of cookie cutter bows.
Ruby: Fishing has been great below the dam this summer. Definitely hopper/dropper rigs in here or stripping bunnies. Plan on seeing a few people as the river has gained popularity the past five years.
